HIGHLY COMMENDED AWARD WINNING CELEBRANT AT THE WEDDING INDUSTRY AWARDS

AHEM! Did I tell you I was recently recognised as ‘Highly Commended’ at The Wedding Industry Awards?
(I mean, I think I popped it on every page here!) If you’ve seen my stories and my reel, you’ll know…

But here is a little press release about it (and YES, my proud mother wrote a press release about me…)

Orpington Wedding Celebrant Receives Prestigious Award

Orpington-based wedding celebrant, Rebecca McMonagle (Bex), professionally known as ‘Bex the Celebrant’, this week received a prestigious award from the trade organisation ‘The Wedding Industry Awards’ (TWAI).  Bex received her award (Highly Commended Celebrant, South-East) at an awards ceremony held at Old Thorns Golf Resort, Liphook, Surrey on Monday 24 January 2022.

The Wedding Industry Awards recognise and reward excellence in the Wedding Industry. TWIA is the only regional and national client-voted awards in the wedding industry31-year old Bex, who has only been a wedding celebrant for a year, was nominated by one of her many happy couples and was shortlisted by the judges as a regional nominee. Only satisfied clients can vote for each nominee and leave feedback for consideration by the judges; 100% of Bex the Celebrant couples voted for Rebecca and the panel considered her deserving of recognition.

Bex the Celebrant commented:

“My job is to give couples choice, and to show that their wedding ceremony doesn’t have to be with a traditional registrar or particularly religious. They can be fun, filled with laughter and personality, as you can see from my Instagram feed.  I’m so proud to have been recognised for the work I do as a celebrant, and hopefully this will show other couples that there are different ways of personalising their wedding.”

“Why settle for an ordinary ceremony, when it can be (B)extraordinary”

ABOUT BEX THE CELEBRANT

When Rebecca’s day job as a TV Producer in Light Entertainment slowed down during Lockdown in 2020, she decided to use the time to develop a project that had long been close to her heart.  Bex decided to train as a wedding celebrant to bring a fun, personalised approach to the ceremonies of like-minded couples. Being a natural entertainer and performer – Bex trained as a dancer at the BRIT School for Performing Arts, worked as a Butlin’s Redcoat, and as an Entertainment Officer on P&O Cruises before going into TV – and being a hopeless romantic, it seemed the perfect career move.

When Bex married in 2018 there was only one aspect of her wedding over which she had no creative control, and that was the ceremony itself.  Being unaware at the time of celebrancy, Bex and her husband booked the local registrar to oversee the legalities, and as a result felt it to be somewhat uninspiring and impersonal. She explains: “Most people think the ceremony is the boring bit they have to get through before they can drink and have a party; but it’s the whole reason everyone is there - to see you get married. It should be the party starter – not the warmup act, but the main event.”

Whilst waiting to qualify, Bex developed her vibrant website and social media presence, particularly on Instagram, and networked digitally with a range of ultra-cool venues, and wedding suppliers.  She had a very clear vision as to who her target audience were, and this is apparent in her brand image.

Bex the Celebrant quickly built a following and filled all her availability in her first year, and much of 2022.  Much in demand, she has availability for just two more weddings this year, and the calendar is quickly filling up for 2023.

Bex the Celebrant is a qualified celebrant for weddings, vow renewals and baby naming.  Based in Orpington, Kent, Bex predominately covers London and the South-East, but is prepared to travel further afield.
